A NOTE FROM THE PROJECT FOUNDER & CREATOR

“The Ealing Writing Trail is a wonderful way to celebrate the ways words can build us up.”

Dr. Poonam Madar

May 1st 2022 kicked off the first-ever Ealing Writing Trail, a four-week event fostering wellbeing through creativity!

Supported by Ealing Council and part of its Future Ealing transformation programme, the Writing Trail offers a full month of free in-person and online writing workshops led by experts in creative writing, sociology, psychology, and medical humanities. Open to those of all writing levels, workshops include Poetry for Reflection, using simple visual prompts to inspire prose, and how to start journaling.

This month-long initiative opened with a scavenger hunt on Sunday 1 May at OPEN Ealing Arts Centre in Dickens Yard. The family-friendly event—suited for both children (12+) and adults encourages participants to explore Ealing through clues, quotes from prominent British creatives (both past and present) and activity prompts.

There are weekly prizes to be won for those who successfully complete the scavenger hunt.

I believe that the Ealing Writing Trail is the perfect way to celebrate the ways words can build us up. Technology has reduced everything to a short text or emoji, and writing can feel like a lost art. Ealing is the 'space' inviting you to explore and engage with words in the way that feels right for you.

And it could not have come at a better time. This trail coincides with the UK’s Mental Health Awareness Week, National Walking Month and Creativity and Wellbeing Week. I encourage everyone to make the most out of what this event has to offer; starting with walking your way through Ealing with words - YOUR WAY.
